Hello, I'm Jonathan from Sweden.
The first time I ever played on a Mega Drive was in the early 90s, it was at home of a classmate of mine who recently got it, we might even have skipped school that day seeing as it was at lunch time and neither of his parents were at home
Remember that Truxton was the first game I ever played and I was really blown away by the graphics. I believe the only systems I had at the time were the Master System and possibly a C64 and as I had no arcade experience this was really impressive.
Here's where the story gets a bit fuzzy, I don't remember if I played Sonic The Hedgehog as the second game that day or if it was at a later time, but I do recall it was again at the same classmates place and if Truxton blew me away, Sonic was in a whole different galaxy. The colorful graphics, the amazing music, the speed (though not as fast as the 60Hz original ), the cool mascot. Everything about this game was amazing to me and it's this game that will always be synonymous with the Mega Drive for my part (on a side note, love the 3DS version with spin dash function).
Fast forward to about 1993-94 and I got my own Mega Drive, the second model one. Here's where it gets fuzzy again and a bit funny, I believe I got a SNES before I ever got a Mega Drive, but seeing as the SNES games were so freaking expensive my library was very small and the system was mostly forgotten (didn't even get a second controller even though I had a younger brother to play with, that's how little I cared about the SNES). The games on the Mega Drive on the other hand were cheaper which meant I had a healthy library, especially sports games which became my favourite genre on the system.
NHLPA'93, John Madden Football '92, RBI Baseball 3, FIFA International Soccer and Barkley Shut Up & Jam laid the foundation for my current sport interest and also the foundation for a lot of my favourite teams (Penguins, Steelers etc.)
And of course, I can't forget Super Wrestlemania that also lay the foundation for my (fanatical) Pro-Wrestling interest.
Mega Drive might not be my favourite SEGA console (that would be the Master System) but it's a very close second that I have a lot of history with.
Edit:
Maybe I should point out that I still play on the Mega Drive on occasion seeing as it's one of the consoles (six in total) that I have hooked up to my TV. And I also have some 50 MD games on steam that I play from time to time. Besides the emulation of course
